Background Information
The American Association of University Women promotes equity for all women and girls, life-long education, and positive societal change.  Founded in 1881, the AAUW is the oldest and largest national organization, working for the advancement of women, with 150,000 members.  AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership.  Membership is open to college graduates.

The purpose of the Atlanta Branch’s Community Action Committee is to fund small ($500 to $1,500) projects that impact the formal and informal education of girls and women in the metro-Atlanta area.  The goal of the committee is to impact the largest number of women and girls as possible in a significant manner. Typically, these are onetime only grants.  Examples of projects funded in past years include:

  1. Purchase of materials for training women to be customer service reps., Dover Training Institute
  2. Purchase of books for library at Angela's House, Juvenile Justice Fund

  3. Provide girls an additional week of summer camp, Refugee Family Services

  4. Support for middle school students participation in projects, Anti-Prejudice Consortium

  5. Provide for training Georgia women as advocates, Woman's Policy Education Fund

In an attempt to give support to a variety of local organizations, those receiving funds in one year should not automatically expect to be funded in the following year.

Note:  This committee does not fund college scholarships.  However, the Atlanta Branch’s Scholarship Committee does fund scholarships for non-traditional students completing degrees.  For more information, contact: scholarship@aauwatlanta.org
